… The subject I am increasingly passionate about.
Feet can cause several problems and play a key role in an individual’s posture and overall health.
The foot is a center for receiving nerve information, which it sends to the brain. The brain then responds with specific body actions – such as engaging a particular muscle chain, regaining balance, or keeping the body’s center active (the abdominals).
In daily life, it is important to realize that if the shoes we wear do not allow our feet to function freely, they suffer, become deformed, and their poor function can lead to other problems – imbalanced posture, hip pain, back pain, neck pain, etc.
That is why choosing the right shoe is essential. Increasingly, people are talking about minimalist shoes, which have a very thin yet protective sole and a wide toe box to allow the toes to move freely (examples: Vivobarefoot, Five Fingers).
In Pilates, the “Footwork” exercise, performed on the Reformer or Wunda Chair, allows us to work on the flexibility, movement, and strength of the feet while also training the rest of the body. Other accessories are available in the studio – Foot Corrector and Toe Exerciser. Multiple exercises help awaken awareness of foot well-being, facilitating the transition to a world where the feet regain their utmost importance.
