Joseph Pilates was an athletic man who arrived in New York with a clear purpose: to share his knowledge with athletes, initially focusing mainly on boxers. He taught them his Pilates method to help them gain flexibility, strength, and control over their bodies.
Since then, this physical training field has been predominantly dominated by women, both as instructors and practitioners. Potential male participants often show some hesitation when they see that in advertisements for Pilates classes, videos, or blogs, almost only women appear. This is why men seem to turn away from the Pilates method, although we are currently witnessing a certain shift in male perceptions.
A man does not need to be flexible or particularly strong to start a Pilates program.
In everyday movements, some muscles are used more than others.
When starting Pilates training for men, special attention is given to the neglected muscles.
Generally, men need to work more on flexibility than strength. Gaining flexibility prevents injuries and increases range of motion.
To optimize training results, it is important to work the deep muscles, maintain the spine and body aligned, learn proper breathing, and allow the body to release unnecessary tension.
Flexibility, balance, balanced development, and efficient movements are the hallmarks of the Pilates training for men offered by our Pilates studio, MB Studio Pilates.
